When someone searches for something, Google and Bing deliver paid results as well as organic results. In Google, there are ads first and ads on the right hand side of the screen. Advertisers pay to have their results show up first and on the side in hope that users will click on their ads. Google serves these because people pay for them and they hope to be delivering relevant items that people will click on.
