Fun Facts for Pancake Day

Shrove Tuesday is a Christian tradition that is over 1,000 years old, commonly referred to as Pancake Day in the UK. It represents the last day before Lent and so it’s a perfect opportunity to indulge on rich ingredients such as fats, sugar and eggs. In the UK they make, and eat, an astonishing 117 million pancakes on Pancake Day; however, the celebrations go beyond the kitchen. Pancake racing has become an integral part of Shrove Tuesday and go back as far as 500 years.

So here are a few fun facts you may not know about Pancake Day. Apparently the second half of the pancake takes half the amount of time to cook than the first. And this might just be the perfect day to clear your conscience as the word “Shrove” stems from the old English word “shrive,” which means “confess all sins.”
