Is There Really A Gender Gap?

Is there really a gender gap?

According to President Obama and the Bureau of the Labor Statistics, women, on average, earn $0.77 for every dollar their male counterparts make. But it’s not as bad as it seems. The Washington Post reports that when you account for differences in occupations, positions, education, job tenure and hours worked per week, the gap narrows to about $0.95 per dollar.

It’s hard to know who to believe when women are currently outpacing men in earning degrees at all levels. Though one thing to take into account is that a lot of those degrees are being earned in the lowest earning college majors. These majors are traditionally saturated with women, while men make up the majority of the highest earning college majors.
